Like any great love affair, it starts off on fire, then there’s the reality check and then you settle down into this beautiful place. He was given to me as a ‘project’ horse because he was young, new and a little too excitable at the beach.
He was definitely a handful but I was ready. We both taught each other so much.
Our goal is to train them to be sound enough to be a trail horse for guests. But my love for him got in the way and after all the work I’m a little reluctant to share him. And so now he is my main man and I will only ‘share’ him with very advanced riders who understand his soul.
One day maybe he’ll join the ranks as a trail horse, but in the meantime… he’s mine. And forever I will remember the incredible rides we have had especially when galloping down an open beach.
